Item How do students acquire knowledge and character at school: School Culture as Predictor of Student Engagement(DEPARTMENT OF EDUCTIONAL MANAGEMENT, UNIVERSITY OF ILORIN , NIGERIA, 2014) Ajayi, o. Samson; Halima, Sarkin Fada; Shobayo, M. ABuilding a peaceful and secure Africa should start from the home front of the constituting nations. Education remains the most vibrant means through which culture is transmitted from older generations to the younger ones. School culture has been regarded as the fulcrum through which other activities in school revolve. The objectives of this study were to identify the prevailing culture in the public schools as well the various aspects of student engagement. The study also sought to determine the relationship between the school culture factors and student engagement and investigate the predictive ability of the school culture on student engagement. A descriptive survey design was adopted. A total of 200 teachers and 200 students in 8 public schools completed School Culture Survey and Classroom Engagement Inventory respectively. Unity of purpose, learning partnership, and collegial support received higher rating. Students were found engaged more in behavioural engagement-effortful and cognitive dimensions. School culture factors were found not adequate in predicting student engagement. The results implied that school culture had no significant influence on student engagement. It is therefore recommended that teachers should be more proactive in discharging their professional functions in schools.Item PERCEPTION OF MODE OF DRESSING ON CAMPUSES OF IDGHER INSTITUTIONS OF LEARNING BY STUDENTS IN AMBROSE ALLI UNIVERSITY EKPOMA EDO STATE(JOURNAL OF EDUCATION, PSYCHOLOGY AND RESEARCH (JEPAR), 2020) Shobayo, M. AThe study explored perception of mode of dressing on campuses of higher: institutions of learning by students in Ambrose Alii University, Ekpoma Edo State. The study identified the forms of indecent dressing prevalent among the undergraduates as well the perceived causes of indecent dressing. It also determined the consequences of indecent dressing and students adopted coping mechanisms. Survey research design was used for the study. Two hundred (IV =200) male and female students participated in the study. The researcher-designed and validated questionnaire titled "Students Questionnaire on; Indecent Dressing (SQID)" was used to collect data for this study. The reliability:coefficients obtained ranged from 0.72 to 0.91 when the instrument was pilot-tested on 40:undergraduate students in other university outside the locale ,of the study. The findings revealed that both male and female students involved in this study dress indecently. The results also showed that peer group influence, accepted foreign influence and fading values, and modernization of Africa culture were majorly acknowledged causes of indecent dressing by the students. It further revealed that indecent dressing has negative I consequence on the respondents and students showed preference for seeking faith based solution than seeking counselling helps and services as one of the coping mechanism. The study concluded that students perceived that male and female undergraduates involved in indecent dressing on the campus. It therefore recommended counseling helps and services for educating students on the implications of their mode of dressing.
