Abstract
Productivity and efficiency are the major factors of good performance in every organization.
Both are often influenced by employees job satisfaction and organizational commitment.
When employees tend to work effectively and efficiently the organization satisfies and encourages
them to be committed at every point in time. Lack of commitment and dissatisfaction with one’s
job increases turnover intention. Hence, the focus on this study is geared towards examining the
influence of employees job satisfaction and organizational commitment on employees turnover intentions.
The purpose of this paper is to investigate employees turnover intention in private universities
libraries in Nigeria. The study seeks to focus on the effect of job satisfaction and organizational
commitment on employees’ turnover intention. The study population consists of thirteen private
universities in South West Nigeria. Out of one hundred and ten copies of questionnaires which were
administered, ninety-four copies or 86% were retrieved. Data collected were analysed using SPSS
17.0. The results showed positive and significant relationship between job satisfaction and organizational
commitment as both of them affect librarians turnover intentions. The results provided some

insight into the influence of job satisfaction and organizational commitment in the private universities. However it may not be appropriate to generalize the findings across the other populations or settings.
