Item Applicability of Archetypes and the Folkloric Panacea on Societal Ills and Degradation of Morality(International Conference on Humanities, Literature and Management, 2015-01-10) Okeowo, Adegoke; Okeowo, Abigail OlufunmilayoTechnological advancement in this contemporary age has, obviously, turned the world into a global village. The art of news gathering and dissemination has become phenomenal. All one needs do is punch the right buttons on the computer or mobile phone and the world is, as it were, at your feet! This has brought to fore an endless stream of disturbing news of chaos, violence, brutality and absurdity across the nations of the world – all of which are, surreptitiously, pushing the human society towards the precipice of self-annihilation. Over the ages value system in most societies seem to be changing at an amazing rapidity, resulting in a gradual but alarming erosion of societal morality. In this respect therefore sociologists, social crusaders, educational psychologists, guidance counselors, opinion leaders, and significant others must put hands on deck to arrest a worsening scenario. The foregoing background forms the premise of this paper which seeks to examine the nature of archetypes as embedded in African folklore in particular, and as obtained in cultures of the world in general. The paper submits that, by reason of its universality, archetypes can be employed through the use of folklore (which is essentially didactic) to bring about a reawakening of sensibilities, self-awareness and re-embrace of all that is noble, virtuous and humanistic, towards the much needed sanitization of our society in these unsettling timesItem EFFECT OF OVERT SOCIAL MODELLING THERAPY ON SELF-REGULATED LEARNING AMONG SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS IN IFE CENTRAL LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA OF OSUN STATE(2020-07) SHOBAYO, M.A; OJO, O.OThe study investigated the effect of overt social modelling therapy (OSMI') on students' self regulated learning among Secondary School Students of Ife Central Local Government of flrea of Osun State, It examined the level of Self-Regulated Learning (SRL) ant!~._ well investigated the influence of gender and academic ability on the effectiveness of the therapy. Samson; Halima, Sarkin Fada; Shobayo, M. ABuilding a peaceful and secure Africa should start from the home front of the constituting nations. Education remains the most vibrant means through which culture is transmitted from older generations to the younger ones. School culture has been regarded as the fulcrum through which other activities in school revolve. The objectives of this study were to identify the prevailing culture in the public schools as well the various aspects of student engagement. The study also sought to determine the relationship between the school culture factors and student engagement and investigate the predictive ability of the school culture on student engagement. A descriptive survey design was adopted. A total of 200 teachers and 200 students in 8 public schools completed School Culture Survey and Classroom Engagement Inventory respectively. Unity of purpose, learning partnership, and collegial support received higher rating. Students were found engaged more in behavioural engagement-effortful and cognitive dimensions. School culture factors were found not adequate in predicting student engagement. The results implied that school culture had no significant influence on student engagement. It is therefore recommended that teachers should be more proactive in discharging their professional functions in schools.Item AN INVESTIGATION INTO TEACHERS’ UNDERSTANDING OF STUDENT DISCIPLINE IN PUBLIC SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN OYO STATE(KDU Journal of Multidisciplinary Studies, 2023-07-11) Monsurat Abiodun, Shobayo; Oluwagbemiga Samson, Ajayi; Joy Ifeoma, AjeroThe study investigated teachers’ understanding of student discipline in public secondary schools in Oyo State, Nigeria. Percentage, mean, standard deviation, and ranking were used to analyse the data. The results showed that public secondary school teachers had incomplete knowledge about student discipline in the 21st century. Students’ unfriendly home environments, parents’ inability to provide basic needs, and fear of reprisal from students or their gangs were some of the identified factors militating against the enforcement of discipline in schools.
